These are the ultimate hot dogs for upstate New York tailgating. They make a pop when you bite into them that can sometimes get confused for the crack of a bat. Ok, that’s weird, but it’s a delicious and fun eating experience.
For our spin on White Hots, we enjoy using all of the Zweigle’s fixins’ such as mustard and sweet relish, just to make it extra authentic. Make sure to wash it down with an ice cold Genny Cream Ale.
Ingredients
2 split-top buns
2 white hot style hot dogs (such as Zweigle’s)
Yellow onion, diced
Sweet relish, to taste
Spicy brown mustard, to taste
Butter, for buns
Directions
Preheat your grill to high heat.
Add the hot dogs to the grill and cook until nearly blistered. While they cook, add your buns to the top rack and toast.
Once the hot dogs are properly cooked, build your white hot by buttering the toasted bun, adding the dog to the bun, and then topping with onions, relish, and mustard.
Recipe Note
Pro Tip:
For serving a crowd, set up a “fixins’ bar” to let your guests add their own onions, relish, and mustard.
