What’s spicy, beefy, a little smoky, and just as important to D.C. culture as its politics? Smothered with onions, chili sauce, and lots of hometown sports love, it’s the Half-Smoke! Half-Smokes are a bite out of our nation’s melting pot, and a delicious one to boot.
These dogs are smoked, then grilled, and 100% tasty. If you don’t have a smoker, fear not. You can use knackwurst or any pre-smoked sausage for this recipe.
1 smoked sausage
Beef chili gravy, to taste
Hot dog bun
Yellow mustard, to taste
1 white onion, diced
Grill the smoked sausage.
While it cooks, add the chili into a small pot and throw atop the grill as well.
Toast the bun on the hot grill.
Place the grilled smoked sausage on the bun, top with chili, mustard, and some diced onions. Serve (and devour)!
