Each year, American grocery stores experience a surge in purchases that, like clockwork, occur in early February. Popular items include ground beef and preformed burger patties, cheese, chicken wings, chips, nuts, pretzels, popcorn, beer, pizza, and avocados. Also occurring at that same time is a noticeable spike in food deliveries for similar items.

It's so popular, in fact, that it's recognized as a food holiday in this country. And it's so big, that it's second only to Thanksgiving in food consumption.
