NESTEA® or Crystal Light may be great John Daly hacks on the golf course…but sadly, these options are not always appropriate for your family and friends. Enter: sun tea. The sun tea process is close to that of a cold-brew coffee, but instead of a cold steep, you use summer’s greatest natural resource: the sun. Sun tea is the absolute best summertime tea—it’s light, refreshing, and impossible to over steep (enter bad flashback of that first bitter batch of hot tea you made with a tea bag that was steeped a few minutes too long). With sun tea, the world is your oyster—there are a wide range of wonderful concoctions that can be made easily on your favorite windowsill.
All you need are tea bags, fruit or herbs, water, a tempered glass pitcher (yes, glass will not impart bad flavors from plastic), and a sunny spot. We’re always playing around with new flavors, but our favorites right now are earl grey with dried blueberries and black tea with thin slices of mango. It is VERY difficult to mess this up, so have fun…just don’t go too buck wild and make some sort of whiskey tea…or actually do? That sounds awesome.
Ingredients
48 ounces filtered water
4–8 black tea bags
2 tablespoons of cane sugar
1 chopped-up peach (optional)
2 slices of lemon
Directions
Add all contents into a glass pitcher and set on a sunny window sill for 3–5 hours.
Strain using a colander into a serving pitcher.
Pour into highball glasses (or your favorite plastic glass…we’re not judging) over ice with fresh lemon.
Recipe Note
Pro Tip:
To sweeten things up a bit more, add a bit of your favorite Jam. Citrus Jams and Marmalades work the best, and add a zing-to-the-whole-thing. Just make sure to omit the cane sugar.
