(A chic French twist on Wimbledon’s classic strawberries and cream—and it's perfect for the French Open)
At Wimbledon, the iconic snack is strawberries and cream. For Roland Garros, why not elevate that tradition with a French twist? Enter: buttery tartlet shells filled with lightly sweetened crème fraîche (the French cousin to sour cream) and topped with fresh, juicy strawberries. (Strawberries happen to be in season and are their peak deliciousness just in time for the French Open.) These babies are elegant, bite-sized, and perfect for nibbling while watching clay-court battles.
Ingredients
12 mini tartlet shells (store-bought or homemade pâte sucrée)
1 cup crème fraîche (or mix half crème fraîche, half whipped cream for a lighter version)
2–3 tablespoons powdered sugar, to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla extract or a splash of Grand Marnier (optional)
1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
Directions
Prepare the filling: In a bowl, whisk together the crème fraîche, powdered sugar, and vanilla (or liqueur, if using) until smooth and just slightly thickened. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed — you want it lightly sweet, not overpowering.
Fill the tartlets: Spoon or pipe the crème fraîche mixture into the tartlet shells, smoothing the tops.
Top with strawberries: Arrange halved or sliced strawberries on top of each tartlet, letting the red color shine (bonus: they echo the clay-red courts of Roland Garros!).
Garnish and serve: Finish with a small mint leaf on each or a light dusting of powdered sugar. Serve immediately or chill briefly before serving.
