Why Crimson Tide? Here’s a bit of history for you! The name comes from the 1907 Iron Bowl, which was played by Alabama and Auburn in a sea of red mud. The mud stained the Alabama white jerseys crimson as ‘Bama heroically held heavily favored Auburn to a 6 – 6 tie. The imagery of Alabama resembling a red tidal wave stuck and over a century later, we still call ‘em the Crimson Tide.
In our recipe version of the Crimson Tide, which incidentally is a chocolate pie, we make good use of melted chocolate, crimson food coloring, and marshmallows to pay homage. Think they’d ever serve this at the Mal Moore cafeteria?
Ingredients
2 cups mini marshmallows
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup milk
1-ounce square unsweetened chocolate
1 cup heavy cream, whipped (until it becomes whipped cream)
1 tablespoon flaky sea salt
10 drops red food coloring
9-inch chocolate pie crust
Directions
Combine the marshmallows, chocolate chips, milk, and the unsweetened chocolate in a glass mixing bowl.
Microwave the mixing bowl’s ingredients on high for 3 min, then remove and stir. Return to microwave and heat on high for 2 more minutes.
Remove and add in the whipped cream and red food coloring. Stir well.
Pour the mixture into the chocolate crust and top with sea salt flakes.
Freeze until ready to serve.

Pro Tip:
Frozen pies like this one transport really well in a cooler on game day. And they go over a lot better than the store bought ones too.
